Case Study: How the Dutch Customs Retargetted their Banner Ads

Dutch Customs wanted to inform travellers that it's illegal to bring back fake designer bags and small knifes from holiday destinations around the world. Retargeting banners were placed in travel websites in which street vendors try to sell you these products. Thanks to the retargeting technique, the street vendors followed you around, popped up when least expected and they got more desperate each time. And after their little sales pitch, the message was delivered; it is not OK to bring these products back.

It was a true-blue integration of the technique and message – the retargeting technique allowed the same customers to be communicated, with a different message each time.
